At the last business meeting on February 14, County Commissioner Ivan Diaz presented a resolution which would declare Kent Democrats’ support for the Drive SAFE legislation pending in Lansing, and urge our members to work toward its passage to become law. The motion to consider the resolution was seconded by Stan Gronek and opened for discussion. Previously, the Executive Board discussed the proposed resolution and recommended its approval. The resolution was offered because no hearing on these bills has yet taken place, even though all Kent County Democrats in the state legislature have voiced their support for the legislation and 19 other states have already enacted a similar law. Upon close of discussion, the resolution regarding support for the Drive SAFE legislation was passed by the county committee with a unanimous vote of 33-0.
