Kent County August 2026 Convention

The Kent County 2026 County Convention will convene on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 10am via Zoom.

The purpose of the convention will be to elect members to the state convention committees and consider resolutions to put before the party’s membership.  The Michigan Dems’s State Convention will take place on Saturday, August 19th in Lansing at the Lansing Center.

CALL TO CONVENTION
SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 2026

The Kent County Democrats must hold a County Convention on August 15, 2020 in advance of the Michigan  Democratic Party State Nominating Convention  August 29, 2026. (Official Call to State Nominating Convention attached.) Our county convention may be held virtually, further instructions to follow.

The purpose of this county convention is to elect members and alternates to the State Convention Credentials Committee.

Who may participate: 

• Members of the MDP in Kent County (Must be MDP member by Thursday, July 16 to be eligible to vote at the August 15 County or District Conventions. *Does not apply to Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials and Democratic nominees to partisan office, per MDP Rule 3.2.2. )
• Precinct Delegates elected on the August 4 ballot. (Must be MDP members by August 15)
• Nominees for County and Legislative office in Kent County (Must be MDP members by August 15)

by 5pm, Thursday, August 13. Your credentials will be checked and you will be sent further information about the August 15 Convention.

Electing members to the State Convention Credentialing Committee: The State Convention Credentialing Committee will meet virtually Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 6:00pm. County Convention delegates from the 2nd CD and from the 3d CD will be elected to the committee separately.

From 2nd CD:   1 female alternate
From 3rd CD:     1 female member, 1 male member, 1 female alternate, 1 male alternate

If you wish to volunteer (i.e., nominate yourself) or to nominate someone else to one of these committee positions, email info@kentdems.com . All nominees must meet the criteria listed above in “Who Can Participate.” Before nominating anyone, please check with them to be sure they are willing to serve. In your e-mail: a) as Subject, please put “August Convention Nomination;” b)  indicate which position the  nomination is for (e.g male member;  female alternate, etc); and c) whether the person being nominated lives in the 2nd Congressional District  or in the 3d Congressional District. (Remember, you must check with the nominee first about their willingness to serve, and you should ask about their district)
