The Kent County Democratic Party has officially endorsed three ballot proposals for the 2026 Midterms.
Each of these three ballot measures have the potential to level the playing field, and excite the electorate by putting power back in the hands of The People! Right now, voters are punished when they are given more choices in an election. A third candidate entering a race means the winner could have support from just 34% of the voters. Rank Choice Voting gives voters the ability to rank each candidate on a ballot, no matter how many candidates there are, instead of just picking one. This simple change frees voters from being forced to pick between a wasted vote or choosing the “lesser of two evils.

This initiative seeks to pass a constitutional amendment to create a 5% “fair share” surcharge on incomes over $500,000 for individuals or $1M for couples will raise about $1 billion annually for Michigan’s public schools.

We deserve a government that works for people, not corporate donors. It’s time to get big money out of politics and end a system where billionaires and special interests call the shots. Democracy shouldn’t be for sale. This citizen lead initiative will seek to ban political contributions from regulated monopoly utilities (like DTE and Consumers Energy) & corporations that seek or hold large state and local government contracts, over $250,000.
